This is going to be interesting. Obviously the University isn’t serious about going out and acquiring proven “can’t miss” coaches, but when a guy turns into that while he’s here are they willing to do what’s necessary to keep him?
I think this will be a good litmus test for how strong the new AD actually is. He may not prioritize keeping Vitello in the first place, thinking he can find the next big thing. But if he wants to, we'll see if his fundraising skills can really raise that kind of capital to pay for this and if the University will let him. The VQ guys mentioned that he wants a $200M athletics budget, which is $57 mil more than 2018-19 if google and head math are right. Would be a good signal that they actually are taking athletics seriously if they try to make this work.
