Do what now? https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39564069/two-adults-charged-murder-chiefs-parade-shooting “Authorities did not release ages for either man, but court records show Mays is in his early 20s and Miller is 18 or 19.”
They waited awhile, and like I said this doesn't quite fit the mold of other mass shootings. The lone gunmen ones. If I posted articles or papers on this, would you be interested? I am not just inventing this.
So if they wait a few days there is less chance of a copycat? Do we really have enough data to say with certainty this is true? I'm all for it if it's proven to work, anything to cut down these things from happening.
We know there are copycats when they post the name and face of the shooter and tell you their little story, ya.
Can't copy what you don't relate to, and it takes away the incentive of getting a moment in the national spotlight personally.
I can see that. I do wonder if not reporting on it can be worse sometimes as rumors can swirl out of control. I don't think there is a good way to exactly go about these things when they happen. Obviously the most focus should be on early prevention.
School is back in session so time to fire up the Thoughts and Prayers machines. 2 students and 2 teachers dead plus 9 others wounded at a high school in Georgia.
Literally like, "well at least there hasn't been a school shooting in awhile" and then realizing it was just out of session. Back now
Read this kid was on fbi watchlist and investigated in ‘23 for threatening to shoot up a school. Another parenting and system failure.
He said that he was going to shoot up a school last year. He was on the FBI and GBI radar and spoken to by both; and here we are yet again.
Need to know how he got access to a gun. Parents should be looked into for culpability. We need some kind of change in how these things are handled.
I think if it makes sense you need to start charging the parents like they did with that one shooting. Make them think twice about giving easy access to their guns at home.
Hang the parents and “kid” in public and I bet we see a drop. And I’m tired of hearing about almost every one of these there being investigations already or multiple signs where action taken could prevent an event. I’m sorry but if a kid talks about shooting up a school, meds won’t help. As a matter of fact, antipsychotic or anti depressant meds have proven to make things worse for many. The kid is mentally lost and needs to be institutionalized.
I would take that bet because you won't see a drop. Deterrents like death penalty or even imprisonment have not worked all that well, as you can see we still have one of the highest murder rates in the West and incarcerate by orders of magnitude more people than other countries, yet we are still seeing these things happen. I will say a lot of this goes back to 1981 and the shutting down of public sanitariums by Reagan. We have no place to put people like this 14 year old kid.
Maybe Norris and of course hypothetical but I bet more parents wouldn’t just ignore this shit and let their crazy kids have access to their guns so easily, or get rid of them, or would care/monitor/be active in their kids lives if they saw other parent hanged for being so stupid and indifferent and allowing this to happen. It’s politicized quickly…republicans allow this and that..when imo it comes down to parenting/family unit and taking preventative action. Seems there are laws and/or common sense hindering the prevention of these acts while it seems almost every one has multiple warning signs, police calls, fbi, etc. and they just walk away thinking it will fix itself. And I know people here either have taken or family members taken anti psychotic/depressant meds. My son who’s been sick was kinda pushed to get on buspar for some depressing thoughts, ones we all understood, and had a really rough first week on it before they immediately dropped it. Then I google buspar and first words are “can increase anxiety and suicidal thoughts early on.” What in the [uck fay]!? Oh sir those can subside… Oh ok so if we can survive the firs lt 72 hours without him killing himself the side effects may go away. Got it. [uck fay] off. And again I know people react differently but my mom was manic depressant when I was growing up. I played a sport every season and she never made it to one game. Medicated. Until age 75 when they took her off of everything and she finally became a functioning person again. 40 years on multiple pills did nothing but make her a zombie. Sorry, rant over. Mental health is so big and so many people battle it but pharma is not the answer imo.
