Your World Series champions need a thread, damn it. MLB Network was airing replays of their playoff victories last night. Flipping to those during commercials of the Vols mess was slightly therapeutic.
LaRussa retires. That's a helluva way to go out. Thought he'd go one more to get to #2 on the wins list, but can't blame him for going out on top.
Yes, I think I'll retire after winning arguably the most entertaining World Series in the past 15 years
Oquendo has to be considered, IMO. Has to. Been too faithful for too long not to get consideration. Not saying he should get it, but he has to get serious consideration. Tito will get a call. No doubt about that. I'm wondering if Bobby V. will contact the Cardinals. Fanbase's first choice seems to be Joe Maddon. Wouldn't be opposed to giving Gibson a call either. Personally, I'd love Leyland to get a call.
Duncan might have been gone anyway. Seems he's probably going to want to devote more time to his wife. Early indication seems to be that Maddon might be interested.
Maddon would be a great hire. St. louis is a great job, maybe even top 3 in the entire MLB. I don't see many folks turning that job down.
I guess my early favorite would be Maddon. I'm not sure what to think about Tito. Guy's obviously won a lot, but that regime didn't exactly end well in Boston, and he basically had the best money could buy there. Wouldn't mind Leyland or Gibson either. Would definitely think Oquendo merits a look. Still, if one of these (more) proven guys is available, hard for me to want to give it to Oquendo.
Off topic: Thoughts on Ron Washington? Can't help but feel his perceived managerial ability gets a sentimental boost from his dugout enthusiasm. Am I off base?
Ron knows the game and is a very likeable guy. That said, I do wonder how much decision making he's actually doing.
