If the university is already providing them with the housing allowance and now forcing them to move back on campus, wouldn't they have to buy out the leases?
If I rented apartments to Texas football players, their lease just tripled. I'm sure they'd agree to sign it if they got a few hundred dollars in return.
I don't know how the housing allowance works - but what if the players never see the money and the lease is worked out and paid by the university to begin with.. Like they aren't given the money and told go rent an apartment... But rather Texas has some agreement worked out with the complex.
Meh - players aren't benefitting from it or seeing any money. Seems like a stupid thing to get in trouble for if it's against the rules due to the fact they go back to shitty dorm living and don't see any money.
What I originally posted was pretty stupid on my part. They actually do benefit, because players get to pocket whatever is left over from their housing allowance. So, if the school is buying them out of their leases, that's money that the players don't have to pay and can pocket.
