Given the recent scandal of schools funneling money to players through shoe companies, I don't see UT, or any other school, hiring Chip Kelly right now. http://www.sportingnews.com/ncaa-fo...larships-postseason-ban-recruiting-violations
But would he win? Because that's all that really matters. We know that Chip would likely win, and win a lot. What do we know about Gruden? Nothing, and that should concern people a lot more than it is. The Gruden hype train is flying off the rails for a guy built on hopes and dreams instead of facts and accomplishments.
Yep. It's not gonna be any trouble to pay him, even if on paper compared to other coaches it looks like an outrageous number. Boosters don't even have to dig in to their pockets to make it happen. They just need to say "you have my full support, now go out and get our man and let him run the ship, Im getting out of the way."
Have you ever taken a look at the circumstances of the sanctions? A recruiting service that Oregon used gave a recruit $200 and a hotel stay so he could visit them in Houston. Ultimately, the NCAA found that the violations were unintentional and Chip took responsibility since they should have had better oversite on the companies they were working with. This is apples and oranges compared to what's happening with College Basketball.
And you're pushing a guy coming off an 18 month show cause for using proxies to get cash to players/recruits in the middle of a major investigation over using proxies to get cash to players/recruits not just by the NCAA but also involving the FBI. Guess both the Kelly and the Gruden positions are delusional.
For the record, I'm not anti-Kelly. I think he would do fine here. I just don't see him as an option right now given the current climate.
