Or to even evaluate who was worth a crap. Or to let someone worth a crap do what was needed without interference.
I don't know what Tennessee is doing, but I don't agree with you on this point. We lower volume but we still lift to add strength during the season, and unless a kid has a lengthy injury. 90 percent or more of our players get stronger during the football season. As a football coach, football season is our longest period with our players that we just get them. We'd be crazy not to use that time to get stronger.
Why would they be working on endurance during the season. Most programs go to a 3-5 rep for your core lifting during season. Subset lifts might be in your range, but I'd be shocked if they're squatting, benching, or dead lifting in your the 12-15 rep range.
Strength fades faster than endurance with the amount of work players do overall. I imagine they 100% work on that since basically all the other work on the field takes care of endurance.
I didnt say thats what i have done. I had read somewhere via google a few weeks ago when the conversation came up about guys losing or gaining weight during season. Same article I believe said nfl players switch from heavy lifting to other stuff. Sorry i cant remember what article.
Found the one i read. 2010. Not saying right or wrong. In HS we lifted heavy. https://www.livestrong.com/article/339120-weight-lifting-workout-plan-for-d1-football-players/
That is sourced from a looong time ago "Complete Conditioning for Football"; Michael Arthur, Bryan Bailey, Tom Osborne; 1998 "A Chance to Win: A Complete Guide to Physical Training for Football"; Mike Gentry; 2005.
Yeah it was a quick lookup at a lunch and 2010 is outdated. From an sec standpoint with being banged up, id be interested to know more.
It might have been written in 2010 but the latest research there was from 05. And the other source was '98.
Though id take the strength of a Tom osborne team. Never forget them shoving us around and we were not weak.
I was on a mission trip and we has set the vcr go record. We just rewound the tape and never watched it. That same cassette went on to have the national championship game.
