Really hope we are putting in a package for Jennings to run about 15 times, hand off 30+ and maybe throw it 10 or so. But I think JG starts. As bad as he is, Shrout is either just as bad or worse.
It’ll be JG if Maurer can’t go - and at this point I’m beginning to doubt he can go. Shrout was a Helton guy - I don’t think Pruitt even really wanted to sign him. He let Helton talk him into it.
Alontae Taylor was also a high school QB. Put JJ back there, when he needs a breather, put Taylor in.
We haven’t run a single play out of wildcat this year that I remember being a success. No way the coaches are going to build an entire gameplan around it.
I would argue we are better off resting Maurer and giving him a good chance to heal than risking 3 concussions in 3 weeks. Might rest him for UAB too.
I will continue to say he shouldn't have played vs Bama after having one the week prior. Now the rest of the season is up in the air vs looking good with a healthy and rested Maurer. Saw this coming a mile away. No, generally, you can't not play players if worried about injuries, but this was a different scenario imo with him in the med tent the last 2 games multiple times and at least one concussion. Some up on the hill believe he had one the week prior too. Playing him at Bama gave us the best chance to win, but also may have cost us the rest of the season and chance at a bowl.
Pruitt deficit spent his goodwill and support in weeks 1 and 2. I think he feels like he needs a bowl. Usually coaches under pressure choose conservatively. So JG. but if he maintains the attitude he had against Bama, he rolls the bones with Jennings. I believe the players would be more highly motivated with JJ. Either way, no one would know until game time. JJ to Callaway deep first snap.
I dont think Maurer plays. I dont know if Shrout is capable of winning the game. Or not losing it. JG is capable of doing just enough to win or completely blow up and lose it himself. I'm not a fan of a coach testing the wind to decide who should be on the field. And I dont think Pruitt does that. But I dont see how you put him back on the field. If you do and he falls flat again you have opened the door to criticism for the choice. Personally, I'd run with Shrout a watered down plan for him and a wildcat package. Having said that, it feels like JG and an even more watered down plan for him than usual. Bad spot
