This is a pretty good article on how Butch recruits: https://thefootballbrainiacs.com/why-love-matters-in-recruiting
I don't know that Butch's coaching prowess will ever match his recruiting acumen but, if it ever does...holy shit. The worm is starting to turn...
Good read, JG, thanks for sharing. Valid point by the author, kids need to feel "the love", to know you care and are looking out for their best interest (while a student-athlete and beyond). As for Jones the recruiter, I think it safe to say that we all are on the same page. He's an uncanny ability, dare I say an innate sense in how he relates to people. And to have his asst coaches buy-in to the extent they have and to appear / are genuine in their approach and recruitment speaks to Jones "the individual" as much as Jones "the coach".
I agree, but it's not easy finding coaches that will work the hours and do the cheesy things he does. Look at his assistants, they're almost all reclamation projects on their last stops. They have to work their asses off or they're high school coaches
Considering what we've seen the past 10 years, I'm good with 10 wins a year for a few. ....sucks to say it, but there it is.
When we hired Butch I had know idea he was going to recruit like he has. I think he is definitely exceeding my expectations in that category.
No, Dabo had an OC with better job security than him bailing him out. Butch has won games despite his OC.
