Thread: Three minutes of awesome

    Default Three minutes of awesome

Saw this floating around Facebook, yet I've never actually seen The Newsroom, but thought it too good not to share with my fellow 8thers.

Bill Maher's rant is better and more accurate, save the dig at soccer.

Three minutes of awesome would have been my nickname in college, if I could only have made it past the two minute mark.

I've always thought the love of the clip was ridiculous. I can't imagine a time where people haven't said the same thing about the current generation and its state of affairs.

    Exactly.

It just panders to our own self-view of the world as we see it. Somehow, because we got to here, things MUST have been better in the past, and things are just going to shit now.

Things have always been going to shit.

You got to be pretty goddamn stupid to think young people are the main problem today.

Yeah, it's always another generation's fault.

But we're not doing much to right the ship either, and I can understand the frustrations but doubling down on more socialist programs is only going to push the train faster toward the financial cliff.

Every younger generation is weak, lazy, spoiled, disrespectful and stupid. And its not entirely untrue. But in time, as it has for nearly every previous generation, the current crop of young people will mature into the quality(or lack thereof) we've come to expect from our older citizens. And then they will bitch and moan about the next generation being lazier, stupider and more spoiled than they ever were, regardless of the accuracy of the sentiment.

I don't know anyone young who doesn't work, except for those from wealthy families. I'm not kidding. I can't think of one.

I know tons that are taking one or two community college classes a year and have been doing so forever and living at home. they also occasionally find some job and quit within 6 months because the boss is an ******* or they are quiting to follow their passion (one quit to become a professional choir singer, no joke), etc. none I would really call wealthy. I guess wealthy enough they can afford to have a kid live at home for free. in all instances, i'd say the parents are enabling the shit out of the behavior though. I'd say I know more of these than I do people with 22-28 year old kids with full time employment.

And are still wrecking it. I'm already sick of seeing the AARP commercial poking at both Parties that "we're waiting" for your social security policies.

I didn't say it was the norm, just pretty common.
