Looks like we may need to take this seriously, on a personal level.

While not apocalyptic, it's gonna be like an extra flu to worry about if it takes root in the US. And I think it is trending to being a global problem.

Headed to NYC this weekend, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a small paranoia about it.

 

100 deaths worldwide doesnt seem that many. How many people die each year from regular flu?

 

Keep in mind it is just getting started ha I JG only first been recorded about 4 weeks ago.

We’ll see infections rise about 50% a day for about 10 more days at least and then hopefully we’ll see it begin to level out and decline if it doesn’t jump more broadly. The problem is the long incubation period.

But to your point - it is not as lethal a virus vs some we’ve seen. Regardless, it seems to be easily spread and has a decent lethality. Nothing to just ignore.

It’s been wrecking my last couple of weeks on the professional side as I try to get a handle on impact to help manage our exposure in the oil markets.

 

So far the positive is that those with underlying health issues seem to be the ones being hospitalized and dying from it.

 

I'm going to Thailand next month... I think.

Per the stuff passing through my work email on the topic, it is not as virulent as SARS and has been less severe than what we saw with MERS, so far. It's worth paying attention to, especially for those with compromised immune systems.

 

I for one welcome our new viral overlords.
