OK I’m going to be serious for a moment. Perhaps the wrong thread. I know that Jerod Mayo just interviewed for (or was rumored to be) a HC job but he’s only been a LB coach for a few years. Is there any planet he takes a DC position here? Sounds like some wanted him for HC here - could we pay him enough to be DC?
I like it. Particularly if Steele/Mayo have the right mindset - Steele coaches LBs and mentors Mayo on the admin side. I’d love to get Mayo here and who knows. He might grow into your next Hc.
Glen Elarbee is one of the best offensive line coaches in the country. He only makes a little over 400k a year. Heupel better bring him with him.
I don’t want him to. I want him to have an awesome career, whether it’s NFL or college, and he doesn’t need to destroy it by taking this dumpster fire of a DC job.
Well, earlier you seemed to posit that we don't pay our head coach hires more because they aren't worth it Heupels will spend a week and 250,000 dollars on a search firm to hire his own LB coach, for sure.
This definitely feels like it will be a "bring the crew with him from Orlando" situation and keep Steele as DC.
Did you want to pay Pruitt 8 MM? How about Heupel? You have to be able to attract an 8 MM guy to pay it to him. Or just waste it otherwise. We were not going to recruit a true 8 MM guy this cycle given what’s looming - or THOUGHT to be looming. I don’t know if we tried in last cycles. Don’t know if the money was there. Kiffin isn’t an 8 MM guy even if we could have gotten him and maybe we could have but if I’m him I wouldn’t.
Well what I want to know now is this: Were NYY and others who seemed very confident Kiffin would walk to Knoxville wrong? If they were not wrong, what series of events led to our Athletic Director hiring a bum instead?
