It wouldn't take long for it to be thousands-- if it was standard practice at two schools for a combined 10-plus years. You don't just pay the blue chips, you even pay the walk-ons if you are truly trying to get a leg up.

Thing is, EVERY P5 program has paid thousands to players. Just end this stupid charade already.

I do not disagree but I remember Saban sitting with Barry Sander's kid at a basketball game. I believe this was a violation but not a word was said. Yet, Bruce Pearl was so scared of it being found out that a kid came to his cookout that he lied to the NCAA.

Bama was on and off probation for ~17 years and since Saban arrived just once at the beginning for bookgate. They were allowed to win his first NC at bama when they should have had a post season ban for being on probation when bookgate happened.

Apparently we made one of his bagmen our HC and he couldn't even cheat competently here.

The NCAA can't come down on them, they are too wrapped up in the success and the mythology of the amateur system being clean. They have a clear conflict of interest in enforcing their own rules on the money-making brands.

Who actually believes this, though? Only the NCAA and 80 year old grandma's believe this, imho.

Of course, with the end of "amateurism", the NCAA wouldn't be needed. Hmm.

You can get paid to sit at a desk handing out towels or giving tours as a college student, but you can't be paid for spending 20 hours a week working towards representing the university to a national audience? It's madness.

Next thing y'all are gonna tell me is Saban's Mercedes dealership is in on it too.

Still can’t believe we turned ourselves in just so we could hire the now 10th highest paid coach in the SEC.

Well, it is part of the story. Everybody pays players, sure. What sets Alabama apart is the level of support they give kids and families and how long they do it for. The cheating at Alabama was pretty insane the first couple years after Saban got there. One of those guys Pruitt helped change grades for at Hoover is still on staff at Bama, despite two DUIs. Another is, you guessed it, employed at that Mercedes dealership. Nobody is going to take Propst seriously, nor should they. But he certainly does know where a lot of bodies are buried. Son of a [itch bay] is dumb enough to think the NCAA would touch them though which is hilarious.

I hope the end of amateurism is the jumpstart Tennessee needs. Unclear how it will affect everyone but we need to a status quo shift so bring it on

When a school is rolling, a lot of mouths get fed. Tennessee did this for years, Fulmer got lazy and Dooley and Butch thought they knew better

  20. Frankly at this point you might as well fully legalize it and implement revenue sharing or something. Either share revenue across FBS so everyone can afford to pay players, and/or pay every FBS player a share of the profits they generate collectively from TV, tickets, and so on.

Hell, how much do we pay those FCS teams to come get beat up on? Why not split that million between covering costs and then just pay out all the players for the embarrassment and hassle? Would be an interesting sight to see the players of directional schools *clamoring* to play against P5 schools so they could get the payout.
