Well shit. That's part of recruiting the best players. Hopefully NIL and the college experience will get more guys on campus.

#11 guaranteed money probably too good to pass on tho

I hate that he won’t be here, but the staff knew he was likely be drafted and have prepared for that accordingly.

He’s 18 and about to get something like 4.5 mil so I don’t know that the NIL stuff will help in this case but it might help get some kids who are closer to being on the fence.

Unless you come to campus with multi-million followers on social media it’s very doubtful you’d come close to making first round money on college NIL as a baseball player.

Bring me all the high draft picks that come and go, IMHO .

    Bring me all of them.

Chase Burns is not going to sign with a team will come play for Coach V. That’s some pretty good news.

But Ryan Spikes looks like he might sign. He was just picked in the 3rd.

That’s a nice get. I had heard he was looking around here, but obviously missed his announcement.

The kid coming in from Mizzou was also drafted, albeit late, so we will have to keep our eye on that one. Seems like another arm we could really use.

Really hope we get a break or two and Ryan Spikes end up here. That could be difference maker for us.

I’d be stunned if Spikes showed up. 99% of players taken in the first 10 rounds end up taking the money. If teams think or know that a kid is going to college, they might use a late round pick on him just to try to establish a relationship for later, but they don’t use a 3rd round pick on someone unless they’re sure the kid will sign.

Note that the salary figure Vitello got was predicted here. Just by looking at the market. He was going to make that kind of money somewhere in 2021, and it might as well have been here. Pay high performers near or at the top of the market in their contract year, and you will end up saving money in between contract years as the price goes up while having a top coach. [uck fay] around, and it looks like football: pay middle prices of the current coach, buyout(s) of the past one or two, all for a total that is as much as the top coach but every year rather than the top rate for the contract year and less than that between those years.

This isn't hard. The pattern is obvious. One literally chooses whether they want to be a top tier coaching destination or not. If you want to gamble, offer less. But don't do it because you want to save money because you won't if things don't pan out. Do it because you want to try someone else. If you like your guy, pay them.

Yes, it would be very fortunate for us if he shows up here. Gonna have to hope the team allocates more money elsewhere than they planned.

Imagine a system where an athlete could sign with a pro team and have some guaranteed money, but can play 2 years of college ball with that money held in escrow for the purpose of giving the pro team dibs on the player. At the end of those 2 years, the player can decide to take the guaranteed money and go pro, negotiate for more, or stay in college either as an extension of the original agreement or for the purpose of being draft eligible again in 2 years. You know, have dudes/ladies choosing between pursuing a degree or playing minor league ball, while still having some financial security to make the decision less about lost earning potential and more about future earning potential (both athletically and otherwise).
