Big 10 got what they wanted from the Pac10. I highly doubt Cal is on their radar at all. Cal should contact the Big12 or ACC

ND could write that check tomorrow. Jack has already made that clear.

travel partner and historical rivalries for usc/ucla, large media market, large big 10 alumni bases in Bay Area, academic prestige (definitely matters to big 10 chancellors). There’s definitely a number that makes cal attractive

Add Cal and one of Oregon or Stanford, and you have basically taken the head of the old PAC 10/12 Highlander style, and gained its power. UCLA, USC, Cal, and Oregon or Stanford (don't need both) and you can pretty much claim all of the historical highs. Nobody cares about Washington or Arizona etc.

Says cal/Stanford media rights worth $90 mil. Oregon $30

Stanford is an interesting one. They say they will absolutely not do nil and pay for players. People forget they were bailing on football before harbaugh came around. They might just take their ball and go home. Cal on the other hand will literally go bankrupt if they don’t join the big 10. Stadium debt will bankrupt the ad

Big10 will go for Oregon and Notre Dame and call it a day and I'm not even certain they really want Oregon all that bad. Imo

Oregon is a small media marker and the size of their fanbase is vastly overrated. Washington I bet is worth more unless they care about nike

Agreed. I think it has to do more with Nike than anything.

Ya. The school itself would fade from relevance quickly. It may already.

If Cal ends up in the Mountain West, the AD must be liquidated. Complete failure.

Washington is probably the best school left, but Oregon's Nike tie will be what get's them in.

Cal, Stanford, Wazzu, and Oregon State are probably screwed.

If that happens the department is going bankrupt anyway

Cal and Stanford’s media rights are worth significantly more then Oregon and Washington. Washington is worth more than oregon, has a far bigger fanbase and better tradition and far bigger media market and Phil knight is like 85 and retired. Cal and Stanford won’t join the big 12. All 4 need to be going hat in hand to the big 10 and telling them they will take a significantly smaller share than usc and ucla.

Oregon and Washington are going to pull a Texas/OU and go at this together. Neither needs Cal or Stanford. You'll be Big 12 or Mountain West.

Cal and Stanford are worth more than Oregon and Washington. Just like Rutgers is worth more than Nebraska. $45 mil each compared to $25 mil for Oregon and $35 for uw. No way they go to the mountain west or big 12. Too much snobbery. Will be acc, pac 10 sans usc/ucla, or big 10 with a reduced payout.

Oregon is the biggest brand out there right now but the big 10 isn’t going to take a $60 million cut in revenues to get them.

There’s also the snobbery of having cal and Stanford in your conference and the Olympic sports and travel partners and rivalries for usc and ucla. Big 10 presidents will vote for cal and Stanford as long as it’s net neutral revenue wise.

It would lock up the California market, too. That has to be worth something
