Not sure where to put this on this website so I started a new thread, but there is a video that is going viral today of a couple professional fishers caught cheating red handed. Absolutely fascinating imo. Apparently hundreds of thousands of dollars are on the line in these tournaments and these two have been winning tournaments like this for years, so I completely understand the anger being expressed by their competitors here. The guys who are being exposed as cheaters seem absolutely shell shocked that the jig is up. Who knew professional fishing could be so dramatic?

Man, those are not even little lead weights. Size of tangerines. That whole sport is brutal, too, as it is a blood sport of sorts. Those fish don't live long after those tournaments.

There are worlds between the survival rate of catch and release, trophy fishing, and what these chuckle [uck fay]s are doing. There's no respect for other people, the sport, or the animals in what they are doing.

You have to think criminal charges could be in play. Fraudulently stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars is some serious stuff.

I'm not sure it is legal to stuff lead sinkers down a fish's throat. Seems cruel and unusual.

Yea a DA could likely go after them on multiple fronts: fraud and animal cruelty. Hell in addition to the lead weights, they were filleting up smaller fish and stuffing their diced up remains into the fish they were officially submitting to weigh in. Just a ridiculous redneck amount of cheating

But how do you prove it in prior tournaments?

You can't. Would be interesting to see if they were doing crappy for a while then all of a sudden came out of nowhere.

gotta think this is a lifetime ban though, right? I don’t know shit about the pro fishing circuit, but that’s gotta be a 1-strike, death penalty offense.

Yeah, this isn't an "oopsie" type screw up. Not only are you cheating, but you are willfully and cruelly making those fish suffer.

If that sport is worth a salt, there’s no way they can’t be banned for life. That’s gotta be the equivalent of the Black Sox throwing the World Series in terms of cheating for that sport. As egregious as it gets

The real crime is that professional fishing is actually a thing.

Pretty sure that particular tournament alone had a purse worth hundreds of thousands. The potential monetary fraud involved in that singular event alone would cross a felony threshold.

I could look at a range of weights by length then fit their catch to that curve. If it is standards of deviation off, it is pretty compelling evidence.

As some one that generally wins a few thousand dollars a year fishing tournaments, those guys will probably get an ass kicking and should be banned for life.

MLF probably has the best set up for professional fishing. They have a judge that weighs the fish on every boat and is immediately released after weighing.

Wish more tournaments could afford to do this, they just can't.

It’s way more fun than you think unless you don’t like to fish.

Survival rate is actually pretty high most of the year. Most professional fisherman know how to care for their fish in the live well. Now in the summer time there tends to be more of a loss of fish. There are severe penalties for bringing in dead fish in most tournaments, even the local ones that I fish.
