Is this a focking Onion article in disguise? http://www.foxsports.com/college-football/story/wisconsin-badgers-joel-stave-yips-090314
I feel like I may have been born with the Yips. I overthink everything, and it is crippling when playing competitive sports.
That's likely, I'm the same way. Too much reading into what's happening around me and anticipating, not enough instinctual reaction. I have a block against "Just doing it" I find guys like mentioned above fascinating, because mechanically everything is the same as when they were capable, the ball simply goes somewhere else.
Moreso, if they still have to make a play where they don't have time to think, they can make it 99 times out of 100. It's just the basic everyday plays they can no longer make.
And that is what it is. Completely a mental block where you are screaming at yourself "DON'T **** IT UP!". Like in Major League at spring practice, when Jake comes up from behind home to throw to second he is saying out loud "Don't palm the ball, don't palm the ball!" and he bounces it to second and says "Shit."
Four minute at bats is one reason I coach softball. We play a 7 inning varsity game and a 5 inning JV game in the time it takes to play one 7 inning baseball game.
I hate slow paced games. I preach it to my pitchers. The less time you are on the mound the less chance you have of screwing up.
