Dead at 69... I'll refrain from making "the only good snake is a dead snake" jokes....

Is he actually dead? There were conflicting reports earlier.

The person who originally had a rough draft of the story has come out saying that Stabler has not died.

But then there is that article, weird

Never was a quarterback more perfect for his franchise. Rest In Peace, Snake.

Somewhere in my vast archives, I still have a can of Snake Venom... A godawful drink but a cool piece of memorabilia.

Was my favorite player as a kid. Don't know why, but I loved the Raiders and thought he was the man.

Definitely needs enshrinement into the HOF. I honestly thought he was already in.

That's because he was the man.

Has sports lost something now that it is completely 24/7 commercialized? Those old Raiders teams were the perfect Heels to the NFL. Is there anything like that in sports anymore?

One of the few to win both NC and SB. RIP

Having watched some old films (thank you NFL Films). Hard not to pull for the Raiders (just before and during J Madden's era) of old.

Yep. Had some good talent around him too. Mark Van Egan (sp?), "Ghost" Dave Casper, Fred Biletnikoff (sp?), the streak Cliff Branch, among others

They traded Stabler to Houston in 1980 straight up for Dan Pastorini the season the Raiders won the Super Bowl. Pastorini broke his leg, and Plunkett subsequently won two Super Bowls. Stabler would be in the Hall of fame had he stayed with the Raiders and won those Super Bowls that Plunkett won.
