If rumors are true Saban has just made his first big mistake.

If he took Lance it is likely an emotional decision after losing Sunseri. He likely is not aware of the issues with Lance since he has been here. Although Lance could go there and suddenly be motivated to be good, there is little doubt we were made better by his departure.

Thank You Coach Saban in Advance...

Is this the signal Saban is about to go on the downward spiral for coaches? I can only dream.

Issue number 1 is the number of recruits he landed this year. That number is 0.

He's had those since before he got here though.

You'll have to forgive me for not feeling this will crumble the Saban/Alabama dynasty.

I don't think it is a mistake, really. Other than maybe the personal issues. Lance is.bright and can get guys to play well. Even if he couldn't I'm pretty sure Saban could hire my mom as a defensive position coach and still field a top 5 defense. As far as recruiting, Bama sells itself right noe. Nick is the most highly regarded college coach in the nation by a long shot, Bama has been the best team of the last five years, has all the tradition and facilities, and is about to have an NFL draft the likes of which you haven't seen since the Canes almost ten years ago

Utter idiocy. Alabama wins that trade and it's really not close. Sal Sunsuckass has never seen the day he's as good at anything as Lance Thompson.

Not seeing this, Hat. What's the rationale?

Saban let Sunseri walk. He immediately brought Thompson back. Do the math. Unless you think Doofus is shrewder than Saban, it's pretty obvious.

By pretty much all accounts, Saban wasn't excited about losing Sunseri. If he loved Thompson so much, he wouldn't have let him come to Tennessee the first time. I get what you're saying; I just disagree.

    Oh OK.

LOL you have totally lost your mind Hat. Lance is a recruiter who has not been recruiting. He has had personal problems off the field since being here. He was a decent to good DL coach. In fact if you look at his resume he gets moved around often to different positions. Why do you think that is? Coould it be teams just keep him on for recruiting? He was horrible DC....On the UT website it describes Lance as a recruiting specialist. He is a recruiting specialist with 0 recruits. And do not put that on Dooley that is inane.

Now lets contrast Lance with Sunseri. Sunseri is a beloved coach and renowned position coach. He has in fact held a position in the NFL for 7 years under what is considered an elite NFL coach. Most coaches find it hard to stay in the NFL for more then 2. Players love him, Coaches love him. This is not to say he will be a good DC. That is a wildcard in this mess but what is not is he is a far better coach then Lance Thompson and a far more valuable recruiting asset. Hat if you choose to deny that there is nothing I or anyone can do. Preach on I guess. It will be much like your Pearl diatribe a bunch of waisted effort. Your statement that Bama won this trade is patently false. Saban himself would laugh at it.

Didn't Saban let Thompson walk to UT in the first place? Was he going to ditch Smart and offer Sunseri the DC position in order to keep him from UT? Saban probably realized that leaving for UT's DC position was something he couldn't realistic match, coaching turnover is a part of life and that it's not like Sunseri is the only good LB in the country. None of that diminishes that Sunseri has been very good at Alabama and that we should be optimistic for the same here.

Thompson owned the Mobile area when he was at Alabama. Probably a little unrealistic to think he could have come here and continued to pull those same South AL kids away from Bama and Aubie even if TN were not in the state it has been in.

I expect he will probably be surfacing back in the discussion of National Recruiter of the Year in a year or two.

These coaches all just bask in the greatness that is Saban anyway. He could have gotten the linebacker coach at South Doyle and been fine. At some point we have to stop hoping Saban's coattail-riders can beat him and find our own guy.

Thank you for saying that kpt. That's why I'm not so thrilled about the idea of Hart wanting to get Kirby Smart. Not saying Smart can't be a head coach, but I'd like to see Tennessee try to go another way.

I do not disagree that hiring a Saban guy is disturbing. Sunseri however made his name at Pitt and then in the NFL. He is not a Saban guy. I am no way disagreeing that he may be a bad DC in the end. As far as recruiting goes this is an A hire and he is a better position coach by more then just a little when compared to Thompson.

We will all find out if he can make adjustments and scheme come this season. But even if this fails when we are looking for a new HC it will be much easier with this recruiting class intact and strong.

I do not want Kirby Smart. I do not think Hart necessarily plans on doing that. It is nothing but internet chatter as of now. I think right now we are all in with Dooley. I am more OK with that with a Sunseri hire. I am not on cloud 9 thinking we are about to be world beaters. I am just going to give Dooley one more shot. Talk to me mid season and I may be cussing a storm again demanding his head.
