Can Dobbs be Successful for UT at QB?

Before you say "Jesus, Indy, another Dobbs thread," just hear me out.

The question is as follows:

Can Dobbs be successful for UT at QB?

Before you start answering, let's get a few things straight.

1. By successful, I mean able to lead us to a playoff appearance and ultimately a national championship. We've already established that we have plenty of talent, and the depth will be even better next year. Next year, big results are the expectation, so that will be our standard for the term "successful."

2. Dobbs struggles with throwing, and our playcalling doesn't help him at all.

3. The success of our offense as a whole is largely predicated on Dobbs as a run threat. If Dobbs doesn't run, we don't move the football. Plain and simple.

4. Dobbs is prone to turnovers and injuries. He doesn't do a good job protecting the ball, and if he's running (as he should be), he doesn't do the best job protecting himself. Can Dobbs play the way he has to play for us to succeed offensively and stay healthy doing so?

So, keeping those things in mind, can Dobbs be successful for UT at QB?

 

Nobody could lead this set of coaches to a playoff appearance, so, no.

Eliminate the coaches from the equation if you want, for the sake of the discussion. Dobbs is going to have to do the same sort of stuff in any offense.

Isn't that the point of a message board? I don't need a definite answer. I want to discuss the idea of relying on a QB to run when he can only stay healthy if he doesn't run.

The progression thing is probably something that we can't really know either way.

 

If Nick Marshall can do it, no reason to think Dobbs couldn't do it with proper coaching.

 

If Nick Marshall can, then yes. Dobbs can.

You shitting me? You told me it's ridiculous to discuss a hypothetical that is impossible.

 

Marshall got twisted up so many times and you'd think he'd for sure be hurt. He only got hurt once at Auburn and missed just one game.
