I wonder how accurate that is. There is. No way Texas only gave out 45 offers.

Why not? Texas is a dream school for a lot of kids in the state. It doesn't take much to get a majority of their recruits.

That doesn't even allow for enough plan B's. I don't see how you couldn't at least have one second choice for every first choice.

Also, how do they define offer!

Also, Texas has been down lately. You've got to think Mack Brown gets a bit worried when Nick Saban and Les Miles come calling. Hell, almost forgot Bob Stoops. He poaches the heck out of the Lone Star State.

I could see it being close. Didn't they have a camp a couple years ago, offer 30 kids at the camp, and get 25 commits?

Do schools have to file written offers with either the 'AA or their conferences?

I think it was 19 commits but the point is still the same.

This is how they lock up 85% of their recruiting class a year in advance. They have a camp, and if the kids aren't willing to commit on the spot, then they no longer have an offer from Texas. They hand pick who they want out of that State.

I think Mack Brown is one of the most overpaid individuals in America.

The Lone Star State feeds about 9 different schools. Texas is down because Mack Brown is Phillip Fulmer. Does Oklahoma get some guys that Texas wants? Sure. But, by and large, Texas has the pick of the litter.

i think the answer lies between the lines of what you said. I would say Texas threw out at least twice as many offers as the total indicates, but if they were initially declined or not accepted with a certain time period (and I would say that time period is probably small for most recruits) that Texas pulls said offer. No way did Texas only offer 45 recruits over the entire year.

I agree with that. It would be irresponsible to just assume you are going to get the 25-30 best players at the needed positions.

I wonder how many offers we were giving out in the late 90s.

They aren't just assuming. They're getting verbal commitments a full year before signing day. Sure a couple folks can renege, but you don't need to throw out another 30 offers to cover your 0-5 guys who will look around.

I get that and understand they have far less uncertainty than a lot of schools, but it seems that even if you could offer 25 guys and have them all commit instantly you might not be able to definitively say you've got the 25 best guys that early.

Weren't we at the low end of offers last year and everyone was praising Dooley for it? Seems like i remember something like that.
