Tennessee Volunteers’ new football facility will have an MMA cage. Yep | Off the Bench

Sweet mother of God. The new facility is going to be epic. To be completed Summer of 2012.

THIS is what the Mayans were talking about.

Hmmm. Seems almost distasteful to have that.

Next time an off duty police officer is beaten within an inch of his life I wonder if his will get brought up?

I remember our football coach in high school making the guys box each other a few times in camp. (I was on the training staff). One time I got in a fight with one of the other trainers on the field during practice and he made us box in front of the team, haha. It's crazy how hard it is to keep going just for a couple of minutes. Amazing cardio workout.

So, uh... what's the practical application of that thing going to be?

No, you got it all wrong. Next the cop won't be beaten within an inch of his life because the team will be proficient with submission moves. The cop is gonna tap out.

I think it is more to impress recruits than anything else.

But all that boxing stuff is good for footwork and grappling helps with the various hand battles between OL-DL and WR-DB.

This will alleviate the need for a traditional police force in Knox Co.

This guy thinks it could work.

This guy had huge ears. We called him Radar except when it rained, then he was Sonar. Too inviting of a target to go for the low blow.

I think I got the better of it. We could barely swing the gloves after a minute or two.

I wonder if they have considered how much money they could make by charging admission and letting the public into some of these fights?

Also, how much would you love to see Al Wilson fight someone in this thing?

I would fear for the other person's life to be honest.

Kind of cool. Do any other school have an octagon in their facilities?

He was rising through the boxing ranks quickly when he was younger. I wish there was public tape of what he looked like in the ring.

I've been trying to think of the best match of players in their prime I'd like to see in the octagon.

I'd say Leonard Little would be a good one. I guess Bill Duff and Ovince St Preaux, too.
