    Favorite but lesser known words, and their definitions. Commonly misused or misapplied words and definitions. Good words to know. Words to be retired.

    I'll go first, and it's always tough as hell for me to pronounce:

    [h=1]indefatigable[/h]

    [in-di-fat-i-guh-buh l]

    [h=3]adjective[/h]
    • incapable of being tired out; not yielding to fatigue; untiring.

    I like when people say commonly known worlds or phrases incorrectly..

    Colder sack a/k/a cul-de-sac.
    Uncorrect

  3. RockyHill

    RockyHill Loves Auburn more than Tennessee.

    Colder sack? What circles do you run in?

    I hate when someone says "irregardless".

    I guarantee that word - and thousands worse - have been used in an accepted dissertation at Barn.

    Careful throwing stones, Cowfield.

    You don't have Facebook? Or any social media?

    The English language as we know it is murdered there, on an almost minute by minute basis.

    Succeed when trying to say secede
    Curiosity when trying to say courtesy

    Are two I saw this week.

    It's kind of on the subject, but I hate when people say "long road to hoe"

    I think we are getting off of what Tenny wanted, but in the vein of annoyances:

    Flustrated

    He definitely said misused words are acceptable.

  12. RockyHill

    I'd just never seen that. It seems like 100% of people suggesting a state secede spell it wrong. Go figure.

    I have appropriated "misunderestimated," and use it whenever I can, irregardless of what other people think.

    carcinisation/carcinization- going from a non-crab form to a crab-like form. Evolutionary term, but I think it should become used in general speech to describe the process of someone becoming a crabby person.

    I'll be honest, the 'circles' that I run in are filled with people who don't have a ****ing clue what either of the words mean that Tenny and IP shared...so you don't have to worry about us using or misusing them.

    Speaking of misused words, I find it shocking the amount of people who cannot differentiate the usage of 'lose' and 'loose'. Idiots.

    "I have a great ideal."

    "Put your John Henry here."

    When people say, "I could care less.."

    How much less do you think it possible to care, then?

    Not to mention that lose and loose are often interchanged with lost. Of coarse.
