If I were AD, here's how I'd go about hiring a new football coach:

    1. Call presser
    2. Fire Butch
    3. Look dead into camera, and say, "I'm going to Tuscaloosa to offer Nick Saban $15M/yr and a $20M signing bonus."
    4. Conclude presser.
    5. Immediately fly to Tuscaloosa and offer Nick Saban $15M/yr and a $20M signing bonus.
    6. When Bama Admin regains consciousness, and matches, I'd up it again.
    7. Rinse / repeat Step 6 as often as necessary.

    What's the downside?

Bama has an absolute come-apart of biblical proportions, no matter what.

He says "Yes" - and now you go to Boosters / Admin / season ticket holders (quadruple season ticket prices - watch people gleefully fight for the chance to buy them) and tell them that you've got Saban on the hook, and to find the money.

He says, "No" - and you've thrown him / his staff / their program / fans into completely distracted disarray. You might come damned close to bankrupting BAMA, in the process.

If you're that serious about going after a coach, who would then be off-limits or disinterested in the TN gig, at that money? Your fall back becomes who, Kelly? Gruden? Meyer? At the VERY least, the Admin / Boosters damned sure won't be whatever bargain-basement schlep from C-USA they had wanted to bring in.

If you're going to do it, then do it.

Yeah, but that guy at that school I've barely ever heard of sure does say all the right things and he seems like a real up and comer.

I like the idea of bluffing Alabama into paying sabans true value

After dgb and mixon I lost all respect for him. Would rather not win the division again in my life than hire him.

    Bluff, hell.

How could they not keep matching - were it in the public eye?

And you know that Sexton damned sure wouldn't do anything to quell the storm.

    Sexton would encourage this

    Hiring an AD

    Call a presser
Publicly tell Currie to get the **** off my campus
    Hire Tenny
Sit back and watch post #1 unfold

I'd show up on campus with a check, mobile crane and a flatbed - and offer to buy his statues, so as to move them to Knoxville with him.

If he said "No" - I'd claim that we couldn't reach an agreement because we insisted on following the 'AA rules, particularly about cash benefits to recruits. I wouldn't accuse anyone, I'd just say it sort of in general, with no reference to anyone in particular.

Whaddya do when he takes the first $35 million, hangs around for a year and then pulls a Kiffin on you, or just flat out retires?

That's why you have contracts, and don't let Hamilton negotiate the terms.

Besides. $35M to watch him leave Bama in ruins, and have even one season at Tennessee?

    Worthy every penny.

    Bama would just hire Gruden....

An AD that hires [ddiapos] and Butch Jones is representing a university that clearly doesn't care about winning football games. Maybe Currie does, but the University of Tennessee does not.
