Anyone opposed to this? I think the good outweighs the bad. To totally eliminate the bad, could you not just make voter registration cards have photos on them?

It doesn't bother me. I do think that it put a little inconvenience on older folks that had to obtain a photo ID. I want reliable elections. I do question the actual level of fraud compared to the perceived level of voter fraud. I just really don't think that it is at the epidemic levels that have been claimed.

It doesn't bother me, as long as the state provides free basic ID cards by law.

    Photo ID should be required.

    Socialist, imo.

Ya, I know. Just don't think there should be anything keeping someone who is destitute from having their constitutional rights. Or a hammer and sickle.

I'm opposed. It's a de facto ID card requirement. And an ID card requirement is something to which I am strongly opposed.

Only an ID card requirement if you want to vote, technically. Anyway, you are required to register to vote. Why not just make part of that registration the fabrication of a photo ID?

The guy known as neocon with his idea that only property , business owners or military should have the right to vote, disagrees. Of course, he is hoping for the return to feudalism.

I agree with you, IP. Suffrage is a fundamental right.

Just to play devil's advocate would you also argue that those unable to transport themselves to a voting booth should be accommodated by the government?

There are ways to vote without physically having to go to a polling place.

Don't you need a residence for that, though?

I'm not sure to be honest. I guess you would in order to have the absentee ballot sent to you. Never thought of that. Interesting conundrum.

Most if not all of the voter ID laws have ways for people to get IDs free of charge if they don't already have them. As far as the homeless go, you have to draw the line somewhere. Otherwise you could have traveling gypsies going from town-to-town state-to-state voting.

If anyone was actually interested in making elections fair, we'd pass real campaign finance reform.
