It still doesn't explain why my broom can stand on its own. Planet X is an option I have not thought of for the cause of it. That's got to be the reason. We're doomed.

Scientists can look at neighboring objects. Everything has a gravitational force, and planets typically have large gravitational fields, and thus neighboring objects can be drawn to them, in their orbit.

Similar to how black holes were found.

Also similar to how the jedi used the archives to find the "lost" planet where the clones were being made. Hi kpt, again.

Your eyes can deceive you. Don't trust them. Float knows.

REM is going to be pissed, 'End of the world as we know it' would have been a big hit on Itunes.

I get what you are saying, Oldvol. You can't "see" it, even if you can detect it!

I do wonder about the state of the country, when NASA has to take the time to even write this.

If I had to guess, it somehow would absorb light. What we visualize, we do so from reflection of light to our retina.

But I'm not sure how that would work, since the only thing that I can think of that doesn't absolutely reflect some portion of light is a black hole.

Not even close... The Romulan Empire hates the United Federation of Planets. The UFP's military academy is based in San Francisco. The planet is obviously equipped with one of their cloaking devices rendering it "invisible". We are undoubtedly under attack by those pointy eared bastards.
