If you are ever in my hometown (Johnson City) you should eat at these places: 1. Red Pig 2. Poor Richards (Campus location) 3. Greg's Pizza 4. The Cottage 5. Pal's (locations throughout Tri Cities) Eateries from my childhood no longer that have since closed down (Rest in Peace): Sunny's Cafeteria, Crazy Cajun, Gurney Burger Now, tell me where I should eat in your hood.
Shipshewana, Indiana Blue Gate (best home cooked food you will ever have) Tiffany's (actually one town over) Wana Cup (Best root beer ever) JoJo's Pretzels is a must for a soft pretzel. Thats all I got. Its a very small town.
Never tried Red Pig, so have to go with Ridgewood for BBQ Agree with Gregg's Pizza. Cottage is ok For a fine dining experience - The Troutdale in Bristol For sushi - 620 State, Bristol
Agree with PR's. Good sandwiches but the best iced tea I have had. Greg's Pizza is a little 'slice' of heaven on Earth. The only must in my town got bought out by another Walgreen's. Then, they decided not to build it. The Mountaineer was some of the best home cooking you could get. The best items on the menu were the deserts. They offered a banana split that was large enough for three (that's the only size) and the best and biggest hot fudge cake in the world. They added a little coffee to the fudge. I hate coffee, but in fudge it's pretty dang good. My favorite was breakfast. Tons of country ham. Couldn't beat it.
I actually have a better idea in places I used to live than the place I live now. So here goes. Johnson City, TN 1. Ridgewood (this is not in Johnson City, but it's a short drive and is COMPLETELY worth it. Never had any other barbeque that compares) 2. Pal's (for the fries and tea) 3. Scratch (depending on what you're looking for--it's a byob hippie pizza joint that asks you not to order but just to let them make you something. Always good though) Due West, SC 1. Grits and Groceries (this is not in Due West proper, but what is? It's about 10 minutes down the road to Anderson, and they make the best Saturday brunch of all time) Waltham, MA 1. Carl's. (best [and biggest] cheesesteak I've ever had. And my buddy living in Philly didn't disagree) Durham, NC 1. Only Burger (in the mold of Five Guys, but vastly superior. Get the single with bacon and pimento)
I'm not from Dover, but I spent a lot of time up there as a kid fishing and hunting. Cindy's and The Dip are must eats if you're ever over there
There's also a gas station the next town over from me that has the best breakfast you'll eat. The lunch is good and their banana pudding kicks ass. It's the Douglas Amoco
In Lexington, TN - Scott's BBQ, if you are feeling adventurous, travel down 22A to Jack's Creek BBQ City Cafe for breakfast, if only to hear the old men talk shit In Maryville - Bread of Heaven (technically Alcoa) Subs n Such Sullivan's Foothills Milling Company (nicer) Gracie's Diner (breakfast)
Knoxville Chandler's on Magnolia - BBQ and Soul Food. Dazzo's on Gay St. - Best pizza in town. Louis' on Old Broadway - Great Italian place. Their meat sauce could be a meal by itself. Some people hate it, some love it. Steamboat - Haven't been since it moved to Market Square, but it is the best sandwich place in Knoxville. Downtown Grill and Brewery on Gay St. - Solid food with a big selection. Never had a bad meal.
