Not busts but recruits we thought we coming and didn’t. Maybe last minute flips or just whiffs by the staff. This Cade Mayes stuff got me to thinking about it. Lots of people will have a better memory than me on this.
I wouldn't put Bruce Petty on list. You put a warm body at qb under Art Briles, they throw for 4,000 yards.
Boyd didn't really fit the systems of Fulmer, Kiffin, or Dooley. Might have been decent under Butch if he could've overcome the coaching like Dobbs did. There's a reason he's not on an NFL roster.
Didn’t Vonn Bell put a UT hat on at his announcement then take it off and swap to OSU ? I’m remembering listening to it on the radio and initially they said he’s saying Home.
Harrison Smith, although he was always all Notre Dame. Him and Berry together would have been insane.
I thought we quit recruiting Harrison Smith after Eric Berry committed. Either way, I think he was all ND.
In the same vein....what recruits did Tennessee pass on, but could have easily gotten, and who went on to stellar careers, elsewhere? Boyd seems like one. Wasn't Patrick Willis interested in Tennessee, and we basically passed? From a long way back, I recall an article in the KNS that was printed after Barry Sanders won the Heisman, and where he said that Tennessee told him he was too little, IIRC. Any others?
