Images from Abaco show nearly total razing of structures. The death toll is going to be high. 20 foot storm surge. Freeport has been experiencing this storm continuously for hours and hours now.

How did this thing essentially hover back and forth over the island for so long?

Any chance this thing strengthens back into a higher level hurricane?

It was stuck between two ridges and a trough and lost all steering currents. Had to wait for the ridge to weaken and be picked up by the trough.

Incredible to me was jut how well the stall was modeled.

It’s entering areas less conducive for development, but could see short lived fringe reintensification, IMO.

As it moves north it will encounter relatively warmer waters because the ocean heat content over grand bahama was very depleted by the strong by stalled system - that’s ultimately why it started weakening and then really weakened as it underwent several eyewall replacement cycles - but over cooled water that prevented reintensification.

Now it’ll find warmer water and may reorganize to some degree. But shortlived. It’ll encounter increasingly less favorable conditions of drier air and increased sheer.

And we have a Hurricane Jerry.

I don't know why I find this comical, but I do.

Hurricane George will just meander around the Atlantic and finally fizzle out somewhere. UNLESS it decides to do the exact opposite of what it normally chooses to do, then watch out, will make Andrew and Katrina look like spring showers.

We got nailed today. Snuck up on us. Thought Imelda had mostly cleared out last night, then 10:00 this morning the skies opened up.
