Dr Strangelove, Lawrence of Arabia, All Quiet on the Western Front, Das Boot, Schindler's List, Gallipoli, The Fighting 69th
Did I miss Apocalypse Now on this list? I'd vote for Private Ryan, but Hurt Locker needs a mention. Maybe MASH, too.
Das Boot is up there. Bridge over the river Kuwai might be my top one. I also liked The English Patient. Empire of the Rising Sun Looking forward to 1917.
There are plenty of movies that wouldn't make the cut as the best but a good watch. I enjoy watching foreign movies and their account of history of war.
Something that wasn't clear to be the first time I watch in Inglourious Basterds: Colonel Landa knew who Shosanna was right away. From the jump. He was just toying with her until after the premiere, until the bigger opportunity became clear.
next time you watch, pay attention to how he keeps dropping references to dairy, the cream, etc. I think he was needling her.
I asked my wife what her favorite war movie is, and I am now living through clip after clip of Mr. Roberts. I recommend Mr. Roberts sometime if you haven't seen it, btw.
I don't think I have seen Operation Petticoat. It's only because Robert Osborne didn't introduce it to me at some point. That guy could hook me into a movie like no other. Ben is okay, but man Bob could get me interested in a movie like no one. My DVR used to be full of TCM stuff just because he got me interested in what was coming on next.
