Away goals used to be the first tie breaker. So in a two leg tie, if you win away 2-1 but lose at home 0-1 the aggregate is 2-2 but you advance to the next round because you had 2 away goals. Now if you’re still tied at the end of regulation you play two 15 min periods and then move to penalties if still tied after that.
It was kind of wonky I guess but it really affected how teams approach the first leg. Now, i don’t really know how different it’ll be
