I am amazed at how few tourists understand the dangers of dehydration in desert areas. In Palo Duro a few weekends ago, they had 47 emergency calls on one of the popular trails there. There is even a huge sign at the trail head warning people to bring AT LEAST a gallon of water per person and LIVE TO HIKE ANOTHER DAY.

My pack was full of water and it was empty when we returned.

Nothing like a seized caliper pin to turn a 20 minute pad replacement into going to bed pissed off. Ran out of map gas, will just hit it again tomorrow.

 

My brother and I did a hike near Sedona in the middle of the day in the summer. Heat was brutal. We had people ask us for water as we started our hike back. I’d have given what little I had to them if I thought they were in any trouble but they were young and seemed as fit or more so than us. But I was just dumbfounded. It’s 100 degrees in a desert and you came all the way back here with nothing?!?

People just don’t understand/respect nature enough man.

 

My cousin passed overnight yesterday, she was touched, mentally incapable of a solo life, but she made it to nearly 50 when opinions at the time didnt have her living to adulthood. A bit tounge in cheek, but if we all spoke as honestly as her, and loved the things we appreciate an life as much as she loved Phil Collins, then the world would be a better place.

 

Ok. Southern Colorado has this beat. Just went through Durango, Colorado and over Wolf Creek Pass. Holy hell it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. And 10,850 feet is way up there.

Being in west Texas/new Mexico/Arizona for a week has a curious effect on you. We are driving through Colorado and Kansas and I am now going "Look! A river!!"

Feels weird.

 

Sitting in Bozeman MT. I could get used to this place really quick.
