This morning was the 30th day I've worked out. I've settled into a nice little rhythm for the time being. Basic, but it's working.

2 days a week of 5x5 bench, 5x5 incline, 3x10 dips, 3x20 abs, 15-20 minutes walk/jog on treadmill (transitioning to run)
2 days a week of cardio - 15 minutes bike, 20 minutes on elliptical

    Ha.

Not really though. From football, catching in baseball, etc, I've got thick legs. Once I get to a spot with upper body and fat loss I'm happy with I'll start with lower body.

Hexbar deadlifts, a push exercise, a pull, and any vanity shit want to do and you're covered.

    I like Dan John.

    Pull, push, squat, hinge, carry.

I wish the gym I go to had a hex bar. My favorite way to deadlift.

I've stopped doing squats. I don't get the spinal compression with the hexbar.

It's stopped all of the lower back pain that I was having.

I'll probably stop doing barbell squats eventually.

I like goblet squats a lot and those are easier to maintain.

Loaded carries have become my favorite thing to do in the gym.

I've never really used the trap/hex bar.

You can do your farmer walks/ loaded carries with it too.

They've made a huge difference for my football kids too. If you only let me do one lift, it would be the hex deadlift.

Leg press is probably frowned upon now but I pressed 450 yesterday for reps. 13 months from a new knee and a chicken leg that couldn't lunge air

"Black guy" at the gym uses it a lot.

(I label all the people there I see a lot - Swim Guy (always wears swimming shirt), Runner Girl (always running on treadmill), Clayton Guy (wears Clayton Homes cap), College Kid (looks at best 20) and Make-up Lady (probably spends an hour to get ready to come to gym) are there daily.)

Leg presses are okay if you have an injury, but I don't like machines that isolate in general.

What do you do in place of squats? I've thought about just doing dumbbell step ups and front/side lunges.

Hexbar deadlift. Squats are a great exercise, but I'm pretty active on my farm. Deep squats and being so active was taking a bit of a toll.

Or at most front squats, which I've never done so that would be a fun process.

    I’ve started doing back squats 3 days/week.

    Adjusting to the volume.
