    First black manager.

    In both leagues.

Underrated player and manager. Rest in peace.

I’m not sure Harper is the generational talent he’s hyped to be. He’s had one monster year and misses a bunch of games every year.

    Granted he’s still just 26

Welp, Machado off the market. San Diego, 10/300M

If he's worth 300 mil over 10 years then Harper is worth... Less than 300 million over 10 years

Get paid 30 mil a year and get to live in one of the most desirable cities in the US? Yes, easy call.

I would take Harper right now at $30 mil AAV.

Lol, no. Harper definitely hits his valleys, but his peaks are >>>> than Machado's.

Plus, he's not a dirty piece of shit.

More HRs, more runs, more RBI, more steals, better steal %, better OBP, better slugging (and OPS obviously).

Machado has a better strikeout percentage, but Harper crushes him in walk %. Swings a lot and makes contact, but also shows in the GIDP where Machado nearly doubles Harper.

Can't help think that if I were Mr. Padre I'd rather have 3 good $10mm players.

    3 Jed Lowries? I wouldn’t. Even Michael Brantley got $16M a year.

They lost 96 games last season. Seems like more than a 1 player problem.

How about a Yasiel Puig, a Jose Quintana, and a Carlos Carasco? Or maybe you could get value pricing for 3 Christian Yelliches.

Padres farm system is already loaded with “3 good $10 million” type players, for lack of a better example. They have them droves. In fact, Keith Law has their system at #1 going into 2019.

They don’t need 3 $10 million guys. They need a superstar. And they got one.

I don't know the Padres farm system. I don't know the Padres, because they have finished at least 16 games back in their division 8 years in a row. And from my seat, this looks like a vanity pickup rather than a sound strategic move.

Are you going to build a team around Machado? Does adding him catch the Dodgers for the division? The Rockies? If they've got a farm system loaded, it should be producing players or trade bait.

On the other hand, I'm glad he isn't a Met, Philly, or Nat.

The have an MVP candidate for the middle of their line up for the next 10 years, and all it cost them was cash.

Puig is in his 3rd abirtration year, and will commend far more as a FA.

Quintana required two of the Cubs very best prospects, and it can be argued that deal hasn’t worked out for Chicago, the Cubs that is.

Carlos Carasco is an interesting mention, but he’s 31.

Yellich was an absolute steal, and it took a rare idiotic move by a shit organization to make it happen.

Would I build a team around a 26 year old who over the last 4 years averaged 30+ homers, 159 games and a 5+ WAR?

    You’re [dadgum] right I am.
