When Shelby County schools and Memphis City schools combined prompted the surrounding areas to form their own municipal school districts. Germantown High stayed in the Shelby County School district while Houston High School became part of the Germantown Municipal School district. This caused a rezoning of the area thus causing many people to pull their kids from Germantown High and send them to the many private schools of the area as Ssmiff spoke of in his above post. Many of the kids that had been attending Southwind High school were now sent to Germantown High school and some that attended Kirby High were sent to Southwind High.

 

Yeah, GHS isn't actually a Germantown school anymore. It's weird.
