Carolina ain't hiring an underachieving 66 year old coach with no connection to the Tar Heels. That program is more incestuous than Bama football used to be when they were scouring the earth for descendants of the Bear. I would be stunned if it wasn't a member of the "Carolina Family".
Kansas just gave Bill Self a lifetime contract. Were they worried about losing another coach to UNC? Incredibly, this contract includes a clause that bans KU from firing him for cause due to the current NCAA investigation. So they’d still have to pay him his buyout if they decide to fire him over it.
That’s wild. Obviously Self has a ton of power in Lawrence but I’d love to know the hand he played to get that deal.
Dane Fife leaving Izzo’s staff to become the Associate HC for Mike Woodson. I guess this means that he’s the de facto coach in waiting.
Interesting to see who they go after. Damon Stoudamire and Miles Simon could both be candidates. Obviously the uncertainty over the NCAA could hurt, but that’s a top 10-12 job.
I agree that it is a highly desirable job, even with NCAA sanctions coming. a 2 or 3 year storm for a legitimate national platform in a warm weather state? Worth it.
