True, but Oregon just cleaned up in recruiting. I would imagine Tennessee has more HS talent than Oregon does. It’s all about the coaches and their ability to recruit.
Dan Lanning is an elite recruiter for sure. And money talks. I don’t see us breaking top 5 year after year with this current staff + our NIL. We might be able to every few years or so now that we’ve established ourselves and should be done with the NCAA.
Eh. Oregon has a shitload of money. And there’s not a bunch of other top 10 programs within a short drive.
Sure I get that, but if they sucked starting today for 20 years, they probably would lose their national recruiting profile. It isn’t just about money.
Like obviously money can paper over a lot in CFB, as in life. But you gotta remember until the past year or two, Tennessee went 20 years without doing much of anything, so the way we see Tennessee isn’t how most young people see Tennessee. With that being said, I think if you could possibly quantify brand recognition +/- over a discrete time period, Tennessee is leading the nation in the past 2 years and I’m not sure anyone else is even close.
Hugh Freeze can flat out recruit. Look where Auburn is. It’s about the coaches. Having a top 5 class is less important now than in the past with the transfer portal. I’m fine hanging around the 10 mark if this staff can continue producing 10 win seasons and bring in high character guys. And guys that fit their system/culture. We just beat Bama 2 out of the last 3 years and they have dominated recruiting for awhile now. We will be fine
Ok so it’s about the coaches among other things and it’s also about what our coaches do and say or won’t do or say. Hugh freeze hired hookers to appease 18 yr olds and prayed for them to have a good time. He will do or say anything. We have a culture. They don’t.
Yep. That’s why I threw in the fact that I’m ok with a top 10 class if this staff can continue producing 10 win seasons. I’d rather go that route than the Hugh Freeze route.
If we’re getting top ten classes by taking 23ish guys with an average rating of 90+, that’s enough to win with. We’ve had some previous years where we get to the top ten by taking a lot of bodies with less quality.
I would like to see classes re graded after jr year of college. Btw Baylor v McCallie on TV. Baylor loaded and big. Rb to ole miss. UT wr Dodson. Huge tackles. Soph rb who will likely be a target of UT.
I think DGG is a better talent than SMK. Pretty nuts that a HS team has a potential future 5 star as their RB2
I'm going to the games tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing the Simpson kid and Anes. I believe the staff is already recruiting the Baylor RB. He's Canadian but hopefully he wants to remain in the area.
