This is pretty much my thoughts on the situation.

 

I agree with hat when it comes to an academic position, but I would have no issues with him being part of the university's financial management staff in a position typically requiring a degree. That's a more analagous situation imho.

 

"We understand you created it, but since you weren't taught about it by someone else, you aren't qualified to teach others about it." Makes sense.
