Tennessee should tell Memphis they are not playing them in any sport. Ever.

If I was the kid, I'd enroll at TN, pay my tuition, and sit a year.

But, then, I'm a Tennessee fan, so it's easy for me to say that.

Is there any way to sue to get out of a contract if that contract is unfair? Could a student sue the NCAA over this stupid LOI nonsense?

Is an loi a 4 year deal even though scholarships are year to year? If so, that's absolute horse shit.

This makes it sound like it's only for one year at a time:

Huh. I was wrong, as usual with these sorts of things. Then what exactly prevents a player from just leaving and going where ever they want? Maybe hat will chime in on this.

It's just the NCAA rule I think. The issue is the other school can't grant the scholarship by NCAA rule if the other coach blocks the athlete from that school. I suppose you could consider it an academic transfer if the student pays his way and then joins the team on scholarship the next year.

Sounds uncannily like the old reserve clause.

One plantation falls, they find another one to exploit. Is the way elitist America does business.

I am inclined to think it was more the AD that placed the TN restriction rather than Pastner.

If I were TN, I would convince the family that paying 1 year for Austin is nothing when his sister would be on a full ride at TN for the remainder of her education.. Legal or not

Without a release I believe he has to sit for 2 years.

Are you sure? I thought it just meant he wasn't eligible for a scholarship/redshirt year if he went to a restricted school
