Barnes on Expectations

Just heard Barnes on with Chris Vernon in Memphis.

Thought the interview was solid....

Vernon asked what he thought about his roster and what expectations were for next year.
- Barnes said he was still evaluating roster
- Said he told the team that he did not care about outside expectations, but the expectation for next season would be the NCAA Tourney. Said he also wants a winning program, not a team that makes it here and there.

Say what you will, but I like that he had the opportunity to already blame roster shortcomings and talk about year zero or rebuilding. In fact he said he never liked to say rebuilding.

 

Expectations are bad.

 

"Two years away" means "a coach away."

 

So he said exactly what we'd expect any new coach coming in to say.
Sometimes I wish coaches were given truth serum. Coach speak is so boring.
Even the stuff with Enes Kanter in the NBA talking about how he hated playing at Utah, it's honest and makes sports more fun to hear what people really think.

 

WEll if you are a coach and go on record as a coach saying something to like my roster sucks and we can't win at a high-level with these guys then you've lost your team before the first practice.

Yea if you're talking about winning the conference or national title, not just making the tourney.

 

Dooley more less did the same.

 

And will for as long as nobody calls him on it.

 

I have zero respect for anyone that makes excuses. Ask Mike Tomlin.

If he continues to recruit at this level and the wins don't follow, people will want him out. He's bought himself time with his act and recruiting but I'm not convinced the entire fan base is utterly retarded.

 

How long have you been a UT fan? Some people didn't want Dooley fired

 

I'm talking more about media members in Knoxville. For a lot of the fanbase, if Hubbs or Rucker don't say it, it's simply not true
