riptides there are brutal. Was down that way last year and flag wasn't even red, but the lifeguard told me they had over 30 riptide water rescues over a few hours. My youngest got in a little trouble one trip and just a few minutes after, as I'm standing in waist deep water, a man gets caught in one about 20 feet away and people formed a human and boogie board chain to throw to him and get him out. Directions to swim horizontal to beach to get out of it don't do much when you are in a spin cycle. He said "the sand underneath me just disappeared"
