We talking beyond white and black here? Nashville has a much higher hispanic population. I know the highest Kurdish population in the US. Large refugee population. I don't know much about Atlanta but it looks just like an inverse of Nashville with regards to white vs black population.
I think these are good questions. I don’t know the answer - I was mainly describing their view. I know ty feel like they got less looks when they visit Atlanta. But I’m with you on measurement of diversity. My definition is essentially diversity is higher when the highest percentage of any race is lower. There’s also a total number of races above a lower threshold that also should factor into it I think. It’s a hard thing to put a number on - but like pornography, you know it when you see it.
This. There is practically any ethnic group you could imagine here. A lot of Atlanta’s diversity stems from having the worlds busiest airport here. Everybody (and I mean EVERY BODY!) flies through Hartsfield-Jackson at some point or another and apparently many folks like what they see here enough to stay. Culturally, practically any food/entertainment/educational itch you want to scratch can be accomplished here and for the ethnic groups that have formed communities here, many never have to learn a word of english (for better or worse, I don’t judge one way or the other) if they don’t want to. Additionally, Atlanta isn’t called the San Francisco of the south for nothing... you can be as openly gay as you wish and nobody looks twice at you. If diversity is your thing, Atlanta is your town.
Bro, it's close enough to East TN where our unculturedness just cancels out any diversity Nashville has to offer. Got to go to places wealthier than Williamson Co. to find true diversity.
How much black leadership, (mayors, city council etc.) has Nashville had? I’m asking because I honestly don’t know. Atlanta has had a ton of black leadership over the past several decades and it’s one of the reasons for the influx of wealthy blacks living here. The county I live in has many athletes and entertainers living here and much of The Walking Dead is filmed a five minute car ride away from my house. Traffic sucks because the roads were designed when there were only about 200,000 folks living in the entire metro area... now it’s like 3 million. Again, the airport has a lot to do with that but there’s more that goes into the equation. Both cities are cool places to live if you like big, diverse cities and they’re only going to get bigger.
FWIW, the top two lists that popped up when I searched put Nashville slightly ahead of Atlanta in diversity. Not sure how or what criteria was used. Either way, I doubt the difference is a lot either way.
Lordy. They’re just voting - there aren’t any Mexicans here legally to be qualified to sit on the board. They’ll elect honest American Christians to the actual board, I assume.
No, no, no....if history proves anything inarguably true, it’s that liberals don’t get increasingly crazier.
