Best time to have gotten rid of him (aside from on the plane ride back to Knoxville in 2012 at 35k feet) was a year ago. We could have had Fuente, easily. What would he have done with this roster?

What's funny is that a good portion of the fan base was ready to give up on him after the Arkansas loss last year. Then he gets a miracle win over a UGA team that ended up firing their coach, then some wins over the East doormats and the same fans are ready to give him an extension.

I want to see someone like Tar Volon find out the relationship between coach tenure and recruiting success in college football since rivals started doing their thing. Should be dramatic I guess, what with stability being the biggest key to recruiting.

Just looking for something to argue on. Bored, sitting around waiting for AD hire and wanting to see Butch get fired. Guess it'll be this time next year before the 2nd happens.

Yes. And Dooley was coaching a roster that had 3 HCs in 3 years. This is B#tch's fourth year, all these dudes are his.

    Nobody wants Butch Jones
+ Tennessee isn't paying him $10M to leave
    Jones is back in 2017

So we'll wait and pay him $8M next year. Like choosing between a Big Mack and a Quarter Pounder.

It's so stupid to say the buyout is the reason. May as well commit to having another 5 years if you're stingy enough to let the buyout be an issue.

Blackburn recently said that he has not interviewed for the AD job or been asked to do so.

Coaching contracts should be treated like offshore oil platforms. A bond should be taken out for the cost of the buyout at the time of the contract being sent to be signed. If you can't put up the bond for the buyout, don't put it in the contract.

I'm not saying that Tennessee couldn't come up with $10M, that many don't now believe that Jones is a charlatan who needs to be gone ASAP, or that the possibility of landing a much (MUCH!) more favorable head coach couldn't have occurred if the job came open now.

I'm saying that none of this could likely have been even given serious consideration, much less organized and executed, while Dave Hart is not in any way acting as the UTAD, and hasn't been doing so for months, since announcing his "retirement".

And that he sits there atop what is effectively a crippled and barely water-treading UTAD is directly the fault of DiPietro, singularly and personally, and who again, somehow continues to miraculously get a free pass in all of this, by boosters, fans, the media, etc.

I hope that Trump is given one scintilla of the free passage that DiPietro has enjoyed for just the last two years.

The buyout isn't an issue. Tennessee doesn't have an AD or a chancellor

So I think everyone agrees that Butch will be back next year. We know that no one wanted Butch, so can't go there. If the buyout isn't the issue and the issues you state above are about to become non issues very soon, what keeps them from canning Jones after AD is hired and Chancellor is approved? Bad timing? Have to wait until the Chancellor is actually on campus, which I believe I read somewhere said March? What all factors go in to it?

At this point enough time has passed where Tennessee has been an irrelevant national laughingstock that I'm of the opinion that it no longer matters what the UTAD does. The university administration has apparently decided to squash athletics once and for all and make UT into some perceived "Harvard of the South" where academics are not only the most important thing, but the ONLY thing altogether. They'll ride the fanatic portion of the fanbase as long as they can still squeeze a nickel out if them and once even they finally see what's happening maybe... Just MAYBE these bastards (and [itch bay]es) in charge will be smugly trundling off into retirement, but by then the damage will be irreversible.

We're a far ducking cry from an ivy league school by any directional standard. We're not even academically in the top third of our super conference. Thank god for the state of Mississippi and Kentucky. Comfortably, locking the red of the conference out of the bottom 20%.

It would take decades to catch Florida, Georgia, and TAMU. Vandy isn't really a peer institution so I won't get into that. LSU is on the way down due to state politics.

I haven't posted in a UT sports thread in almost a week. There's a reason for that. You are 100% correct with this post as far as how much UT cares about having a championship level athletic program. Nobody with skin in the game cares about UT athletics anymore. As a result, I don't either. I (we) can't want something for someone else. It's obvious what UT and the money boosters want, and it sure isn't a championship level athletic dept. Let them have it. I'm officially done until someone that gives a shit does something concrete to change all this. I'll say it, don't care what anyone says or thinks. I hope Nebraska beats us by 70 in the piece of shit bowl game we are in. Then, I wouldn't care if we went 0-fer every season this joke of an AD and boosters continue to operate as they have.

If it takes burning everything down to purge this putridity from Knoxville, so be it. Burn, baby, burn.
