There's no saying that UT couldn't be one of those places. Jones starts slowly and Kelly gets the job... People can dream.

 

We really need to fire Jones early in the season and get out ahead of everyone else.

 

Announce Chip Kelly midseason and mention that he'll be at all the games scouting his future team and you can probably get decent ticket sales for the last half of the season.

I believe that 7-5 and a Top class all but guarantees he's back in 2018.

Currie seems like a guy that really doesn't like being embarrassed. It's only a matter of time before Butch says and/or something stupid and makes himself and UT a national punchline yet again. He'll be looking for a reason to let him go.

In years 3 and 4, sure, but year 5? You can't get a decade-long test drive in the SEC. 7-5 in year 5, with no division titles in your tenure...that's a termination at every school in the conference, minus Vandy, UK, and maybe Miss State.

 

I may exaggerate a tad, but that damn sure doesn't fly at Bama, Florida, Georgia, A&M, LSU, Auburn...none of the schools we're trying to compete with.

 

At this point, I'm not sure we are actually trying to compete with those schools.

Still, I stand by my prediction that 7 wins + Top 5 class gets Jones another year. 6 wins + Top 5 class might get it done, too, but he'll need to at least scare Bama.
