to be perfectly honest, it’s hard for me to get justifiably indignant over something I didn’t even know about until today
I hear you, and I didn't know about it either but now that it IS known, is it too late to stop it? I saw the article had the house being demolished last Tuesday but apparently that's not the case.
They've been tearing out old houses on campus for a long time. I had instrument lessons in one of those old houses with a UT professor back in high school. A lot of them are not in good shape. I guess I would like to hear the criteria on which to decide if buildings should be kept or not. Jack Neely has my attention. I'd like to see if that kind of rubric would fit any other current structures as well.
This is more than just an old house though... I hope that it can be saved just because of the historical significance. It seems like it would be a bad look for UT to destroy the home of not one but two famous individuals, one of whom is arguably the most legendary figure in UT athletics.
Those people that live along there on Terrace 21st and 22nd Street are crazy. UT has offered millions to them to sell.
We have spent way more money on way stupider endeavors. I bet fixing up that house wouldn’t take much.
