1983–1984- Florida (GA) 1985- Texas A&M (GA) 1986–1987- Southern Illinois (WR) 1988–1989- Florida (OLB) 1990- Ole Miss (WR) 1991–1994- Florida (Assistant HC/DT) 1995–1998- Notre Dame (DE/DT) 1999–2001- South Carolina (DC) 2002–2009- Florida (DC/DE under Zook) (Interim HC after Zook released) (Ass. HC, co-DC and LB under Meyer) 2010–Present- Louisville (HC) Pretty damn decent if you ask me.
I still lived in South Carolina when Strong was Holtz's DC. We all knew then the sky was the limit with that guy. I think Kalimba Edwards was Strong's first real feather in the cap recruiting wise. It got better from there.
and say what you will about Ron Zook, but he worked with him too and we know that Zook can coach defense and recruit.
No, and Charlie Strong wouldn't be decent. He would be damn good, imo. Gruden is still far and away my #1, but if UT gives me Strong, I won't be disappointed.
Serious question. Once you get outside of Gruden and Stoops, who would we have a realistic shot with that would be a rockstar? Neyland, Lombardi, and Bryant are dead. Belicheck looks like he will retire with the Patriots. Urban Meyer is at OSU. Nick Saban is at Alabama. Spurrier isn't going to coach much longer. This isn't the 90's anymore, so Fulmer isn't an option. My point is, if we miss on Gruden, Strong will be just fine here.
If Strong had a couple more years of head coaching expierence, I would say heck yeah, but do we really need a guy that is in many people's veiw, still wet behind the ears as a head coach? Now the problem is, like I was called out on before, who else is out there? I would think with a budget that is rumored to be 6 million coconuts, we could steal someone's big guy.
I heard that Strong's buyout is $3MM. If that's true and if it's also true that TN chilled on Gruden due to money... I think they'll end up spending about the same amount for a couple of years. Including staffs and the buyout that's about $9.5MM for Gruden and about $9.0MM for Strong.
