He pretty well sucked. Traitor. Beat his slaves and separated their families. Also did more to extend the Civil War and make it the bloodbath that it was than any other person. Would not engage in prisoner swaps that involved black troops, effectively stopping prisoner swaps. Supervised the kidnapping of free blacks in Pennsylvania in the lead up to Gettysburg and had them shipped back down as labor. Having a statue to him is like having a statue to a much more effective and racist form of Benedict Arnold.

Democratic socialists of America. Not antifa related so far as I know. That wasn't the group with guns, body armor, etc as far as I know. Honestly, she sounds like she was an utterly harmless social justice type. I am sure some will be saying she was a slut and an anarchist or communist or something, trying to take away their guns.

The positive myth surrounding Lee is astounding.

Another thing we have not discussed is why the police were told to stand down. Here's an account from Fox reporter Doug McKelway:

We are now beginning to hear criticism bubble up on all sides of this event about the initial slow response by the police. When I got out of my car yesterday in Charlottesville about 10:30 in the morning you knew this was a bad scene and bad things were going to be happening because people were congregating at Lee Park and Emancipation Park wearing helmets, body armor, carrying big heavy sticks. Nobody was intent on peace here from either side. People were intent on causing havoc and causing damage. And even as wounded were being brought out of the park police were sitting idly by. I was standing off a cordoned off area where the police had set up as a staging area, the state police, and they said you can come in here this is a safe area. But when the tear gas started to fly, thrown by protesters, the police themselves began to evacuate then. I asked the guy who was in charge, “Where you going?” He said, “We’re leaving. It’s too dangerous.” They had a chance to nip this thing in the bud and they chose not to.

But I was told countless times by Donald Trump that we can't hope to fix the problem if we don't actually call it out by name. So I want to hear him call this what it was, a terrorist attack by a radical right white supremacist.

Interesting, boston. Though if they disperse the protesters, people would be screaming about the first amendment. And maybe they wouldn't be wrong, I dunno

From what I've seen she was a peaceful counter protester and not associated with antifa. The lowest form of humanity has already begun spewing nastiness about her.

If I'm jumping on the racist ass hole general, I'm not going for the guy that said he would free every slave to stop the war from happening.

If Lee had been a resident of Maryland, he would have been a Northern general. Is he a traitor? Yes. Did he do despicable things while at war? Yes. Is he a symbol for white supremacist dumbasses? No, not in my opinion.

Well the white supremacists disagree, and you and general lee apparently didn't get a vote on the matter. It just is what it is.

And if he wasn't a sympathetic and nuanced figure, they wouldn't choose him. They venerated Hitler for 50 years and got nowhere. Now they've had 20 years of steady growth hiding in plain sight.

I am waiting for President Trump to condemn this as a terrorist act, no different than the ISIS truck drivers in France. The intent was to kill and maim and sew terror.

There is an MA police officer in hot water for a "hahaha, love this..." comment on facebook. Not clear if he knew the details when he said it. He said something like people should learn not to block roads.

The dude is probably gonna get raked over the coals, but a lot of us could make a dumb comment with a lot of assumptions. He probably thought it was an accident and that the protesters were blocking the road suddenly.

We probably all assume too much too often.

A lot of us make snide remarks when we think nothing harmful is happening. "Man, you dressed up. Have a funeral to go to?" "yeah." "uhhh"

Though, in this case, a car running into a crowd is surely going to maim or kill people, so it isn't really in the same vein.

I thought a lot of the white nationalist-trump stuff was hyperbolic rhetoric, but it seems now that it is a conscious and deliberate group within the Trump tent.

Bannon was over Breitbart while Milo was writing the crap the alt right was drooling over. Of course it was conscious and deliberate. He wanted their votes.

Do you think that the guy in France jumped into a Truck and decided to drive it into a crowd; or do you think that he planed it?

Do you think that the guy in the car planned it?

This is where I was. I am beginning to question my thoughts about groups on both extremes as I have viewed criticisms of both types more as a cheap way to get attention in the news up until recently.

Then again, as I think you touched on earlier, have the leaders and rank and file of both the far left and right as well as the news media and politicians created a place where these sorts of groups can grow?
