So this brings me to ask some questions. 1. If Daddy Haslam was a part of the problem in this thing not getting worked out the last time, is it safe to say he will continue to be a problem moving forward? 2.If a group of boosters had the deal worked out with Gruden and had Haslam been all for it and in their corner and was willing to give Gruden anything he wanted, would the deal have gotten done in spite of Hart? 3. Can something get done in the future without Haslam or them bypassing him?
Haslam was mad about two things... 1. He wasn't "in the loop" with the other boosters. Ego. Ego. Ego. 2. He didn't want UT to be like Bama and throw the keys to someone and them have free reign. Gruden asked for some extra power, but it was nothing out of control. It's my belief the grumbling about him asking for too much control came directly from the Haslams.
As to number 3- No. But there is a certain someone who can influence even them. And he's good friends with Blackburn. And he's the first person we need to "come home" to make this all work out.
So can Haslam be bypassed? Sounds like we won't make a top notch hire in the future if not. Edit, you got to it before I could post
So what you're saying is that it will take the right person manning up and getting this shit back on track.
His intermediaries spoke to Hamilton when Fulmer was fired, and again after Kiffin left, and were so abruptly concluded that the third conversation would have never been held, had it been similarly initiated by a call from Hart.
"I could do a lot more actual coaching if I didn't have to spend several hours a week listening to "Booster X" tell me how he thought I should be coaching football." - Lane Kiffin (Unsourced, TIFWIW)
I'm glad that your recollection is better than mine, particularly on the dates. Thankfully, I think my mind has erased much of it, if only for the preservation of my sanity.
So we have our own version of Jerry Jones? Niiiiiiice.... We'll never hire anyone better than what we've already got... Might as well get used to being a shitbag program.
