You could probably argue that he would have been fired this year if 2022 didn't happen. Beating Saban bought him a lot of rope with our fanbase.
Indiana is undefeated, the #1 team in the country, and just won the Heisman. It's pretty silly to talk about how hard it is for us to recruit.
I mean yes let’s compare things to the greatest coaching job in the history of the sport. I pretty sure even as shitty as we were this year, we could’ve been a 10-2 playoff team with Indiana’s schedule.
We had 22 transfers out and 7 come in last year. We had to have a major roster trimming with a strong class coming in. You could argue we should’ve went heavy in the portal instead but we had a strategy.
We have recruited much better than Indiana. Indiana hasn’t had any highly ranked recruiting classes. They are well coached by a man on the spectrum who sees the game like The Matrix. Argue a point nobody is making with somebody else.
Cignetti last 2 years has performed arguably the biggest turnaround in ncaa football history so yes. Better than Heup. Better than every coach.
I mean candy hit the lottery by getting Jerry kill and bringing his OC and his QB with him. Heupel is essentially doing the same thing by going all in on Knowles and giving him say so on some staff decisions. We will see how it works out.
People saying why can’t we be like Vanderbilt and Indiana should tell you how much harder it’s gotten.
you strike gold with a portal qb and play some defense and you have a shot. Indiana, Oregon, OSU, Vandy, OK all with older portal QBs.
If he'd gotten a little more depth at CB this year, we wouldn't have had a true freshman start practically all season.
