A bunch of semis driving around at 45mph sounds like a nightmare if everyone else is still manually going 70+.

If they have to be shepherded in traffic areas, there won't be.

Exactly. The article states we'd likely need a new dedicated lane for the auto-trucks. Certainly more infrastructure cost on the front end.

That was kind of what I'm saying, 3/4 of shipping costs are labor, but when they get rid of the labor force, do you think shipping costs will go down even one cent?

I don't think so. A lot of the equipment we use at my work was made in the USA or Germany at one time, but in order to save money, some have moved their facilities to Mexico and China, funny thing is, prices still went up. How does saving money actually cost us more money?

And not one penny of savings passed to the consumer.

All it will take is one company to dump their price and threaten to take all the market share for prices to go down.

I still think rail would be cheaper and better

That's like saying taking the interstate everywhere would be faster. Not every destination has that as an option.

Is everywhere going to have a shipping lane available on the highway.

Then why is it not used more?

If there are any truckers left, 3D printing and drones will take care of them.

How in the hell did we get to driverless trucks without a mowerless lawn mower? Or does that exist and I missed it?

My buddy and I talked in college about building a robotic lawn mower that would just go mow your grass on its own. It actually wouldn't be terribly difficult to do, and that was true a long while ago.

Like a Roomba. It comes our of its docking station, wanders around the back yard them comes back in a while to recharge. Brilliant.

Okay, that's ridiculous. yeah, Americans aren't all terribly bright. But they can understand the difference between 1 accident out of every 100 vs 6 accidents out of every 100.
