    I don't know what means, in this context, I'm sorry.

    Probably wrong-

    Most traffic tickets are not criminal offenses. Instead, the majority of traffic tickets are classified as infractions, also known as violations and civil infractions. Although these acts or omissions are prohibited by law, they are not considered crimes.

    No it wasn't. They list it as an infraction, while not calling it criminal. So we have a dispute, in the classification of criminal offenses. So let's look at misdemeanor, which is criminal, by definition. There it is, right there, class C, b and A.

    It's a misdemeanor, therefore it's a crime.

    Your snippet is very much not clear. Traffic offenses are criminal. They aren't housed in the code under the "Criminal offense" chapter. But it's still a misdemeanor, and thus still a crime.

    @zehr27

    From Tennessee Code, which is the law...

    TN - Tennessee Code Annotated - Title 55 Motor and Other Vehicles - Chapter 10 Accidents, Crimes and Penalties - Part 2 Crimes

    I believe 55-10-207 is the citation one, for most tickets.

    See how it lists it, and by it, I mean, the law, says it's a crime? I can't find a better source man. Hopefully this puts it to bed. It is a crime.

    I see you are using Tennessee. Could it be different in other states?

    Highly, highly unlikely. It isn't civil, because the money goes to the state.

    In some states it isn't as hardcore as our super awesome state of Tennessee, in that it is an infraction, and not a misdemeanor, but an infraction is still criminal--just without the risk of jail time.

    I believe speeding in Indiana is a civil offense

    Civil = civilians = citizens. Ordinary people, not the state. The state is issuing a traffic citation. If Indiana is calling a state mandated fine paid to the state "civil," then it's just because they're [uck fay]ing idiots who don't want a bunch of their white people called "criminal."

    I wouldn't expect much from a place that birthed and educated Indy.

    In the context of normal words, civil is civil. And a traffic stop is not civil. It's government on people.

    Now, if the fine isn't mandatory to be paid, then maybe I'd go with civil. I'd say the traffic lights camera ticket in Tennessee probably now qualifies as "civil," because I don't think it has to be paid.
